The jobs crisis is getting worse, not better, under Stephen Harper.
Whether it’s 450 Electro-Motive Diesel jobs being shipped south from London, or the 600-job Papiers White Birch factory closing in Quebec City, Canadian families are feeling the pinch.
Canada has lost 400,000 good-paying manufacturing jobs since the Conservatives took office. We’ve lost 60,000 full-time jobs since September alone. And three quarters of the new jobs Stephen Harper keeps talking about are part-time, low-wage jobs without benefits.
But in Ottawa, Stephen Harper still has no plan to help. He’s too busy dishing out blind tax cuts to profitable corporations—without requiring that any jobs be created or protected.
We can do so much better. New Democrats have a practical, affordable plan to kick-start our economy. We’re working to create jobs that support families and the communities they live in.
New Democrats will:
Last October, MPs voted unanimously to support our plan because they know New Democrats are on the right track. But Stephen Harper’s out-of-touch Conservatives refuse to act.
They’ve chosen to help well-connected Conservative insiders instead, even as families fall behind.
Enough is enough. Let’s send Harper a message: It’s time to stop the inaction, end the corporate handouts—and get to work creating good-paying, full-time jobs.
