Responsibilities

  • Maintain database and manage mailing program
  • Manage Member’s correspondence
  • Manage media liaison and event coordination
  • Schedule Member’s appointments, activities and travel
  • Open, log, distribute and respond to mail, faxes and emails
  • General administrative and reception duties, including filing
  • Manage Member’s Budget and process bills and expenses for payment
  • Plan, design and promote newsletters, graphics, and social media for Critic and Parliamentary activities
  • Liaison between Member’s Ottawa and riding offices, to ensure good communications
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), design and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work to tight deadlines, under pressure, and to take initiative
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically good knowledge of Windows and MS Office
  • Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, the labour movement, government departments, community organizations
  • Knowledge of Nanaimo — Ladysmith and riding priorities, an asset
  • Experience managing social media (eg. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter)
  • Sound political judgment
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • Administrative experience in busy political office, an asset
  • Experience with desktop publishing software, graphic layout skills, particularly InDesign
  • Knowledge of database management
  • Experience managing and supporting volunteers, an asset
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills conveying policy and legislation to a general audience, using values and actions, an asset
  • Bilingualism, an asset

Annual salary

$54,000

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
