Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, strategic policy advice, analysis and briefings to senior staff, Leader and Caucus
  • Work closely with caucus critics in assigned policy fields to assist with monitoring, collaboration and strategic analysis of government initiatives, as well as in the private and civil society sectors
  • Foster collaboration between MPs’ staff, MPs, and Caucus Services staff in key issue areas
  • Liaise and collaborate with the House Leader’s and Whip’s offices on House and committee strategy, implementation and analysis, including assisting with Daily Question Period.
  • Maintain files and assist members of caucus on policy issues or other matters pertaining to specific areas assigned by the Director
  • Assist with the preparation of communication products, such as press releases, issue notes and reality checks
  • Work collaboratively within the Political Research and Issue Management department to advance the NDP caucus’ parliamentary goals
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience or equivalent in a research, issue management or policy analysis role
  • Experience working in a research or policy capacity for a political party or elected representative; government; trade union; or, NGO
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and Quebec politics, the legislative process as well as Canadian experts and institutional networks
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information or policy research and provide timely, strategic and media-oriented advice and analysis
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work well under pressure, both in a team and independently, while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Sound knowledge of the Federal NDP, its policies and structure
  • Economic or quantitative analysis skills an asset
  • Bilingualism is required

Annual salary

$58,657

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
