Responsibilities

• Schedule Member’s appointments and activities
• Liaise with Parliament Hill office to coordinate Member’s schedule
• Organize and promote events & activities for the Member as directed
• Assist in the collection of material, drafting and preparation of householders, direct mail, op-ed pieces, media material, news releases, speeches, articles and correspondence
• Assist with Member’s constituency-related correspondence
• Open, log, and distribute mail, faxes, emails and respond as is appropriate
• General administrative and reception duties
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Excellent computer skills, specifically good knowledge of Windows and MS Office
• Experience with desktop publishing software, graphic layout skills, particularly InDesign, an asset
• Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of the New Democratic Party, the labour movement, government departments, community organizations
• Knowledge of Elmwood — Transcona and riding priorities
• Experience working with social media (eg. Facebook, YouTube, Twitter)
• Sound political judgment
• Bilingualism, an asset
• Vehicle and license required

Annual salary

$54,500

(salary levels subject to clauses 12 and 21 of the collective agreement)
