Harper is bad for the planet. We have five gifs to prove it.

Scientists agree : countries need to cut their emissions in order to keep the rise in global temperature below 2 degrees. Stephen Harper’s inaction on the environment is alarming. Here’s why.

1. Harper ignores science…

Conservatives have limited the government’s ability to gather data, which informs how we tackle issues like climate change. They actually cut funding for Canadian researchers by $250 million since 2007.

2. ...And did everything he could to muzzle scientists.

In 2006, the Harper government introduced strict restrictions on how scientists are allowed to speak about their research to the media. Many researchers have been prevented from sharing their work at conferences and giving interviews to journalists. Less information, less action.

3. Canada is the only country in the world that withdrew from the Kyoto protocol.

…Meanwhile, the European Union and others have made serious commitments to reduce their GHG emissions.

4. Conservatives prefer decision-based fact making over fact-based decision making.

They actually fired over 4,000 federal researchers and slashed over $1.1 billion in federal spending on science and technology in the last four years alone.

5. Harper’s GHG reduction commitments are a joke.

Harper plans to reduce GHG emissions to 14% below the 1990 level, which is nothing compared to the NDP’S 34% commitment. Meanwhile, the Liberals won’t say what their commitment is. Tom Mulcair’s plan is to ensure polluters pay the real cost of the greenhouse gas they produce. He’s ready for change. Are you?
